i was wondering about getting a new puppy for my house. :?
i have a 10 year old rottie. a very nice, very smart dog full of personality. when she's hungry she barks for food. when she wants to go outside she bring you her collar. after 10 years we've created a very successful relationship. :D
but she's getting old. she doesn't keep up on our morning run's anymore. she has aches and pains getting up from a nap. after a while, when she goes swimming, she starts to limp when her joints and muscles get tired.
she's no longer a spring chicken. :(
so i'm wondering if getting a new puppy would be a good idea. questions i have...
will my old dog welcome the new arrival?
will the new arrival benefit from learning from the old dog?
will the old dog help prevent separation anxiety in the new arrivial?
any other comments/opinions are welcome.
i'm in no hurry to get a new puppy but just wondering if it would be better to get the puppy before my old dog passes or after. :?: |

| You've brought up a lot of good points, dTas. I'd say do whatever you feel is best. Whatever decision you make will be the right one. :D |

i just don't know... i remember one time several dogs ago i did this very thing and my older dog got mad. he broke his lead and ran away never to be seen again. :(
but that was many many years ago. i live in a better situation now and could probably bring in a puppy without upsetting the delecate balance.
we'll see... right now i have to deal with my cats. dander and urinating is a big problem!! *grrr* who said cats were clean! :x |
