After to a few conversations at the local pet store with several of the employees (at Red Bandana), I am learning that some treats are not good for your cat.
- Most commercial treats sold at a regular grocery store also contain an ingredient found in antifreeze that is used as a preservative. It is not uncommon to use byproducts for these treats. In other words, they don't use fresh meat, but scrapings from the slaughter house. Talk about bad karma, I just don't want to give my cats stuff like this.
- Tuna Fish: some cats can actually develope an alergy to Tuna or fish in general. They will lick themselves excessively, and scratch too often, because they are trying to get rid of the smell.

My cat Purr likes a couple of Pounce now and again. For her, I think its like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. :lol: |

I'd also be a little nervous about mercury poinsoning if I gave a cat too much tuna! :(
And no chicken bones either, they can splinter and puncture internal organs! :cry: :cry: :cry: |

| After we heard how bad canned tuna can be, we switched to canned chicken for treats. They said this was an acceptable treat that was healthy. |

They say it's the soft treats that have the antifreeze component. All i know is after I quit giving my cats commercial treats, they seemed healthier almost instantly. There's something called Trim Treats which are healthier.

These treats aren't fatty and my cats really like them.
One thing to beware of in treats is excessive corn. Most commercial treats are largely made up of corn and should actually be made up of protein. Some cats have even started to develop an allergy to corn.
Really good cat food/treats contain brown rice instead of corn. I can't tell you the difference this has made with my cats. The funny thing is this food isn't more expensive than your typical store brands. The cost is about the same.
