A cat and a child

I'm going to have a child in few years and I worry about how he will deal with my cat. First of all, I'm afraid there will some situations, when the cat will be jealous about the attention which will be given to a child and I worry he can scratch or bite him. Also, though my cat is short-haired, he sheds hair someitmes and the hair can get to child's mouth. I don't want to think about giving my cat to somebody as I like him a lot and he is grown-up (he is 4 years old now) and I don't know how he will feel at new place. May be somebody has such an experience and will advice me something?
