It is fashionable now to keep Yorkshire Terrier Dogs.
Yorkshire Terrier Dogs appeared approximately 100 years ago and are believed to have been introduced in Yorkshire County by Scottish weavers, who kept them as rat-catcher dogs, guarding fabric and fiber against rats and other rodents. This breed has Terrier genes in its makeup, consisting of Maltese Terrier, the Paisley, Skye, Manchester, and the Dandie Dinmont terriers.
Earlier, Yorkshire Terriers were known as Scotch Terriers, and it was in 1886 that the Kennel Club registered them as Yorkshire Terriers. Shortly after that the dog was shipped to the USA. In the past Yorkshire Terriers were much bigger than their modern descendants, and they had shorter coat, but breeders were determined to develop a smaller species through selective breeding, and that is what they eventually did.
These little creatures are wonderful travel companions, and they captured the hearts of prim English ladies, who carried them in their arms and bags. Soon after introduction, these dogs became hugely popular among wealthy people and noble authorities. This demand prompted poor farmers and workers to establish a sideline by massed breeding of puppies.
Some breeders were skeptical about the breed and thought that the dog had no future. They were definitely wrong, because this dog continues to win the hearts of dog lovers all over the world. Yorkshire Terriers belong to the toy group, and they are one of the smallest and most fragile breeds of dogs. |
