I have heard that a cat having a wet nose is a sign of health, and that when it is dry, they may be sick. Do you know if there is any truth to this?

I don't think so. Depending on the cat's level of activity, active or sedentary, the nose could be wet or dry. I'd be more concerned if the nose was exceptionally warm.

I'll try to do more research on this, though.

I don't think so either... I knew hot noses were a sign of disease...

I checked a couple of cat reference books I have at home over the weekend. They talked about the temperature of a cat's nose, i.e. if it were exceptionally warm, as a sign of possible illness. Other things to be concerned with were sneezing or discharge from the nasal passages.

My dog ended up dying a few years ago and I noticed that she was depressed. Her nose was dry as the desert.

So my 2 cents... absolutely

I also heard that wet nose is sign of health. I think we should worry if our pet looks ill and his nose, in addition, is dry for some long period of time. My cat's nose is almost all the time wet and my husband hates when he touches his hand with his wet nose :)

I thought dogs were supposed to have wet noses and cats were suppposed to have dry noses unless they were "nosing" around something that was wet.

No, cats should have wet noses also.

That is really odd because we take our cats to the vet regularily and there is nothing wrong with them and I don't think they have wet noses. :?
