Cheetah Cubs Debut at National Zoo
Washington's National Zoo proudly showed off its new, rare litter of endangered cheetah cubs on Friday, June 24, only the second in the zoo's 116-year history. The litter includes 3 females and 2 males. Their mother is a 4 year old female, Zazi, and their father is a 6 year old male, Ume.

| They are nice! When I read such articles, I'm glad that somebody on this Earth takes care of the rare kinds of animals. |

Two of the five cheetah cubs remain at the National Zoo. Based on a recommendation of the Cheetah Species Survival Plan, the three female cubs went to Disney's Animal Kingdom in Florida in May. The two male cubs were separated from Zazi, their mother.
In the wild, cheetah cubs become independent of their mother at about 1 and a half years of age. |
