ok... now that my cat has stopped scenting all over the place i have a new problem... scratching.

she doesn't scratch the furniture or anything indoors, she has chosen to use my new deck as her scratching area. all my brand new deck posts are being all scared up. any ideas on how to stop this new habit?

i've bought an indoor scratching post for her but she doesn't seem to want to use it.

Here's the link to an article I found on the Cat Fancy website that may be helpful.

My cat used to scratch the corners of the divan and all my attempts to disaccustom him from doing it were vain. So I sewed a piece of very thick fabric to the one corner and accustomed him to scratch only this corner. From time to time I change this piece of fabric.
Also, I heard there are sprays which can be used to accustom a cat to scratch only one place, which you want him to.

I had bought an indoor scratching post for Purr when she was a young cat, but she wanted nothing to do with it. I think the construction and texture of the post may not have appealed to her.

Portia used to scratch a little wooden toad i had in my front yard. but we moved it. maybe i should put that back out. it would be better than scratching up my new deck!
